After being closed since November 2014, Assumption Church returned to regular use on Sunday, September 8th, 2019.
All weekend masses now take place in assumption Church.
Confessions take place in Rosary Chapel.
Since May of 2019 the church has been undergoing Phase 1 of a restoration project. Work on the new copper roof is now complete and work will continue this fall on the new heating system and other mechanical and electrical upgrades.
Notes on Returning:
As you enter Assumption Church, you will see hoarding up over the side altars, and the side pews will be roped off. This is to ensure that no plaster falls on anyone, and will serve as a reminder that we need to ensure that Phase 2 happens, when the plaster will be stabilized and the frescos restored.
You will also notice that there is still a staging area outside the church. This will remain in place until the heating system installation is complete, by mid-October.
When attending mass at Assumption Church, parking is free. The parking lot located on University Avenue will be staffed during the 5:00pm, 11:00am and 7:30pm Masses. This is to ensure that there is plenty of parking available for those attending Mass, and that students going to the University of Windsor do not fill our lot. Simply tell the parking attendant you are going to church and they will let you in.
Confessions will remain on Saturdays from 3:45pm to 4:45pm, and will be held in Rosary Chapel as of Saturday, September 14th.
Holy Name of Mary Church:
Although we will not be having our parish Masses there, we will continue to use the building. It will be the home of our Assumption Cares outreach program, serving the community in so many different ways and, of course, the Holy Name of Mary conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which does important work in the parish.
The parish office will be closed on Wednesday, September 4th, as we move from the McEwan Campus (Holy Name of Mary Church) to Assumption Church.
Paul Mullins has released a progress report on the fundraising and restoration:
