Due to the snow this week, our prayer service for Christian Unity was postponed. It has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 1 at 5:30 pm at Assumption Church. Please join us as we pray for greater unity among all Christians.

On February 1st, All Saints Anglican Church and Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Parish will co-host an Ecumenical Evening Prayer service to mark the end of the week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The service will begin at 5:30 pm, and will take place at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, which is located at the corner of University Avenue and Huron Church Road.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which began in 1908, is organized by the World Council of Churches and the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity. Christians of all denominations are encouraged to pray for greater unity among all believers, remembering the words of Jesus in Saint John’s Gospel: “May they be one so that the world may believe” (see John 17:21).

The theme for this year’s week of prayer, “Do Good; Seek Justice,” comes from Isaiah 1:17. This theme allows us to reflect on how the sin of racism has deeply wounded our communities, and to learn from our brothers and sisters in Christ how we can better work for justice in our communities, in our nation, and in the world.

We are privileged to have the Reverend Tracey Thomas, Pastor of Campbell African Methodist Episcopal Church in Chatham, as our preacher for this Evening Prayer service. Donations received will support the Sandwich Towne Underground Railroad Museum at Sandwich First Baptist Church. Reverend Robert Clifford, Pastor of All Saints Anglican Church, and Reverend Steven Huber, CSB, Administrator of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, have each pledged to donate $500 to support Sandwich First Baptist in their efforts to establish this museum.

For those unable to attend the service in person, a livestream will be made available. To access the livestream, visithttp://assumptionparish.ca/live
